Thomas Barrack Officially Becomes U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye: Strengthening Ties between Two Allies
In a significant move, Thomas Barrack was confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye following a successful vote in the Senate. This appointment aims to elevate the longstanding alliance between the United States and Türkiye, a goal heavily emphasized by President Donald Trump.
Upon his arrival at Ankara Esenboğa Airport, Barrack expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am honored to be in the land of my ancestors." He highlighted the importance of transforming the already strong relationship between the two nations into something "extraordinary." According to Barrack, President Trump is dedicated to making both countries more powerful and fostering peace and prosperity for their people.
Barrack, known for his close ties with Trump and a successful career in real estate, received 62 votes in favor and 36 against his nomination during the Senate vote. Trump had previously announced Barrack’s selection via his social media platform, Truth Social, acknowledging him as a key ally since his 2016 inauguration.
Born to a Lebanese Christian immigrant family in California, Barrack brings a diverse background to his new role. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California and later earned a law degree from San Diego University. His career spans various sectors, including a tenure as Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior under President Reagan and working as a lawyer in Saudi Arabia.
His involvement in Trump’s campaign and fundraising events has solidified his reputation as a loyal supporter of the former president. Notably, Barrack chaired the committee that organized Trump’s 2017 inauguration, raising over $100 million, more than doubling previous records.
As he steps into this pivotal role, Barrack’s mission will be to fortify U.S.-Türkiye relations, with a focus on enhancing cooperation and shared goals, reflecting the aspirations of both nations.
