US Army Confirms Deaths of 3 Soldiers Trapped in Swamp in Lithuania
Three US soldiers were tragically found dead in a swamp during a training exercise, while the search for the fourth soldier is still ongoing, according to a statement from the US European and African Command. The soldiers, part of a joint operation with Lithuanian and Polish forces, were operating a 63-ton military vehicle when it became trapped in the swamp.
Following a multinational search effort, the vehicle was successfully removed from the swamp by US navy divers. Despite the loss of the three soldiers, the search for the missing soldier continues with the assistance of Lithuanian personnel and support from NATO.
Major General Christopher Norrie, Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, emphasized that the search will not end until everyone is accounted for and brought home safely. The soldiers from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team were attempting to recover a disabled tactical vehicle when the incident occurred on March 25.
