US Defends Against Iranian Attack, Destroying 81 UAVs and 6 Ballistic Missiles
The Pentagon spokesperson, Patrick Ryder, held a daily press conference to address recent attacks on Israel by Iran. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), there were 110 medium-range ballistic missiles, 30 land cruise missiles, and over 150 UAV attacks launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
Ryder reported that the USA successfully intercepted 81 UAVs and at least 6 ballistic missiles, out of the total attacks. He emphasized that the USA is committed to defending Israel and US personnel in the region and will take necessary measures to prevent tensions from escalating.
When asked about Israel’s potential response to Iran, Ryder declined to make assumptions and redirected questions to Israeli authorities. He disclosed that Iran did not provide any warning to the United States before carrying out the attacks.
In response to the decrease in Ukraine’s air defense interceptors, Ryder described the situation as “grave” and urged the US Congress to allocate additional funding to meet Ukraine’s defense needs. With Russian forces advancing in Ukraine, Ryder stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The recent tensions between Iran and Israel escalated when Israel launched an air strike on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, resulting in the death of 7 Iranian officials. Iran retaliated by attacking Israel with kamikaze drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles on April 13. While Iran claimed to have hit some targets, Israel reported successful interception of most attacks, with only one missile hitting a military base in the south.
The Israeli government is reportedly considering a strong response to Iran’s aggression, as tensions between the two countries continue to rise. Ryder expressed the need for diplomatic and strategic efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent further conflict in the region.
