US Student Expelled from School Due to Mother’s Pro-Palestinian Posts
In the United States, a 15-year-old student named Jad Abuhamda has joined the list of victims affected by anti-Palestinian sentiment in the country. Abuhamda, a student at Pine Crest school in Fort Lauderdale, was expelled from the school after her mother, Maha Almasri, who worked as a mathematics teacher at the same school, posted on social media criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The school administration claimed that Almasri’s social media posts were “hateful and provocative”, leading to the expulsion of her daughter. However, Almasri denied the allegations and stated that her posts only aimed to draw attention to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
Abuhamda, who had been a student at the school for 10 years, expressed her disappointment and emphasized that it was unfair for her to be expelled for this reason.
In response to the incident, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil society organization in the USA, has called on the US Department of Education to investigate the matter.
This case has once again brought attention to the ongoing debate surrounding freedom of speech and the right to express one’s opinions, especially in the context of sensitive international issues.
