USA Retreats: Surprising Turn of Events in Gazan Conflict

Talks Underway to Allow Aid and Civilians in Gaza
The United States, Israel, the United Nations, and Egypt are currently engaged in discussions on how to facilitate the passage of aid into Gaza and enable some civilians to exit the territory. Unfortunately, all border crossings into Gaza are currently closed.
This closure of crossings from Gaza to Israel came into effect after Hamas initiated Operation Aqsa Flood against Israel on Saturday. It has resulted in severe restrictions on the movement of goods and individuals.
Until yesterday, the Rafah Border Gate between Gaza and Egypt remained open. On Sunday, goods were allowed to pass through the crossing, with approximately 200 trucks containing essential supplies such as food, fuel, and construction materials entering Gaza, as reported by the UN.
Even when the border gate is open, entry into Egypt is only permitted for a limited number of individuals each day. These individuals must have their names on an approved list and go through an application process. Only a few hundred people are permitted to cross when the border is operational.
On Monday, around 800 people managed to leave Gaza, while approximately 500 entered the territory. However, the passage of goods was temporarily halted as the border gate remained closed.
Interestingly, an Israeli army spokesperson commented on Tuesday morning that they were aware of the Rafah crossing still being open and advised individuals who could leave Gaza to do so. However, this advice was retracted shortly afterward.
Later, officials in Gaza and Egyptian sources revealed that the area where the border gate is located had been targeted by airstrikes, resulting in the closure of the crossing. Several photographs depict trucks returning to Egypt as a consequence of the airstrikes.
The border crossing has remained closed since then, exacerbating an already dire situation in Gaza, where aid and freedom of movement are desperately needed. Efforts are currently underway to find a resolution that allows aid to reach those in need and permits individuals to travel in and out of Gaza safely.
