USAID and Aga Khan Foundation Complete “Thrive Tajikistan” Water and Sanitation Project

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) have completed the “Thrive Tajikistan” project aimed at providing clean water and improved sanitation to rural communities in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region. The project has resulted in 13 drinking water supply systems and 13 school latrines being constructed in the Farkhor, Hamadoni, Nosiri Khusrav, Panj, Qubodiyon, Roshtqala, and Shahritus districts. The latest construction includes three new drinking water supply systems and three school latrines in three villages of Qubodiyon district that will provide uninterrupted access to clean water to 1,191 households and 1,424 schoolchildren and teachers will have access to sanitary school latrines. The five-year program aims to improve the quality of life for people in all 16 districts of Tajikistan along the country’s border with Afghanistan in Khatlon province and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast. The project has provided access to clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and hygiene services to over 43,000 people.
