USAID Initiative Aims to Boost Economic Growth in Tajikistan with $18 Million Investment

The United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched a new initiative in Tajikistan aimed at supporting long-term economic opportunities. The five-year, $18 million Employment and Enterprise Development Activity (EEDA) seeks to catalyze sustainable development and inclusive economic growth in the country.

EEDA will work with firms in the textile, food processing, and IT sectors to enhance productivity through the adoption of innovative, green technologies, increased investment, and market linkages. The initiative aims to create 5,000 permanent jobs, assist 200 business start-ups in accessing finance, and leverage $10 million in private sector investment.

During the opening ceremony, USAID Tajikistan Mission Director Peter Riley emphasized the importance of fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for both public and private entities. The partnership between USAID and Tajikistan aims to advance the country’s economic landscape and ensure prosperity for all stakeholders.

Art Gandilyan, ACDI-VOCA Home Office Representative, highlighted the focus on sustainability within the activity. This includes establishing commercial relationships that continue beyond the project’s duration, creating economic incentives for the private sector to co-invest, and building partnerships around end markets to expand market systems.

USAID is recognized as the world’s premier international development agency, driving development results globally.
