USAID Sponsors Tajikistan Food Forum 2024
The fourth International Khatlon Invest and Bokhtar Food Forum – 2024 is currently taking place in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Co-hosted by the Khatlon Regional Government and the Export Development Agency of Tajikistan, along with other international partners, this event aims to enhance regional trade and connectivity across Central Asia and beyond.
With more than 400 participants in attendance, including horticulture producers from the Khatlon region, government officials, and buyers from various countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and more, the forum seeks to facilitate trade in Tajik agricultural exports. The Khatlon Invest and Bokhtar Food Forum — 2024 plays a crucial role in fostering market connections, promoting public-private dialogue, and attracting investments to the country.
In his opening remarks, Kevin Dean, USAID Tajikistan Acting Mission Director, highlighted the diverse investment opportunities available in Tajikistan, particularly in sectors such as energy, agriculture, exports, and tourism. He emphasized USAID’s commitment to improving regional competitiveness, eliminating cross-border trade barriers, and supporting a dynamic and competitive private sector.
The Bokhtar Food forums in previous years have proven beneficial to Tajik farmers and traders, resulting in millions of dollars worth of contracts for horticulture producers. In 2021, the forum facilitated $3.1 million in contracts, followed by $6.4 million in 2022 and $6 million in 2023, showcasing its significant impact on international trade.
