Ustel: Shared Pain and Historical Protocol Signing.
On the first anniversary of the coalition government, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel held a press conference titled “One Year on the Road to Public Service”. The Prime Minister was joined by all ministers in the cabinet at the Grand Pasha Hotel, where he outlined the government’s accomplishments in the past year. In his speech, he acknowledged the struggles of the disabled community and pledged to employ 50 disabled individuals to the state by the end of the year. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the Turkish-TRNC fraternity law and passed numerous laws, including the state law and the law on industrial zones.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the difficult economic circumstances imposed by the pandemic and the earthquake disaster in Turkey, which caused unprecedented pain in Turkish Cypriot history. Despite the challenges, the government worked tirelessly to protect the welfare level of the people and improved salaries, increased social assistance and cemile salary contributions, and halted the collection of taxes from the minimum wage.
Steps to boost the country’s tourism potential and transportation infrastructure were also taken. The Prime Minister announced that the Kyrenia Antique Harbor renovation project would soon be completed and brought to the country’s tourism. He also listed several road projects that have been recently completed, including the 90 km village roads, Balalan-Yeni Erenköy road, and Lefke-Guzelyurt double lane road.
In addition to infrastructure work, the government implemented important actions in the fields of local governance, rural areas, social housing, and immigration. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of supporting the private sector by providing support to employees for their insurance premiums, among other measures.
The government also made significant strides in the health sector, with the construction of the New Kyrenia Hospital and other healthcare facilities. They completed the 207-kilometer line for water from Turkey to reach all settlements in the TRNC and continue to work to ensure access to water for agricultural use.
Overall, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government remained committed to increasing the welfare level of the people, creating projects, preparing reforms, and paving the way for the country.
