Children’s Watch in Van Continues for 60th Week
The families in Van, whose children were abducted by the terrorist organization PKK and taken to the mountains, held their 60th week of protests. This week, the families gathered on Menekşe Sokak to demand the return of their children.
Marching with Turkish flags, photographs of their missing children, and banners with powerful messages such as ‘Leave the mountains to the wolves and birds’, ‘We want our children’, ‘Mothers are on guard’, ‘Enough is enough, think about us’, ‘Martyrs do not die, the country will not be divided’, and ‘Our children will not be pawns of anyone’, the families expressed their determination and desperation.
Security measures were tightened during the march, with the police closely monitoring the families’ movement towards the building of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP). The HDP has been accused of having links to the PKK.
The atmosphere outside the HDP building was filled with passion as the families chanted slogans like ‘Down with the PKK, the collaborative HDP’ and ‘Martyrs do not die, the homeland is indivisible’. In an attempt to silence their voices, loud music was played from the HDP Provincial Presidency building. However, the families stood strong and expressed their discontent with this tactic.
One mother, Nazlı Sancar, bravely tried to join the action to seek justice for her daughter Şeyma Sancar. However, she was stopped by police teams at the barricade. Despite this setback, the families remained determined to continue their fight.
After the protest, the families temporarily dispersed, but their spirit remains unbroken. They will continue to raise their voices and demand the safe return of their children until their pleas are heard.
The Children’s Watch in Van has gained significant attention both nationally and internationally. It serves as a reminder of the pain and suffering endured by countless families affected by terrorism. The hope is that their perseverance will bring about the desired outcome and reunite these families with their loved ones.
