Vatican’s Exclusive Ice Cream Flavor Coming to Lake Balaton

Vatican Ice Cream Flavor “Hallelujah” to Debut in Hungary
Starting next week, a special ice cream flavor created by the Vatican, named “Hallelujah,” will be available in Hungary. This unique dessert is the official treat of the Jubilee Holy Year 2025 and has been brought to Hungary by the Balaton Tourism Association.
The Promenád Kávéház in Balatongyörök on the northern shore of Lake Balaton is the first confectionery in Hungary to offer the Vatican ice cream flavor. The first scoop from the inaugural container will be donated to charity, with the proceeds benefiting the local church.
The “Hallelujah” ice cream, created by Italian artisan Vincenzo Squatrito, is a special blend of roasted hazelnuts and chocolate with a base of gianduia (chocolate cream with hazelnuts). Vincenzo, who has been running a family confectionery with his twin brother since 1994, offers a variety of 54 different types of ice cream to their customers each year.
The Vatican ice cream flavor will make its worldwide debut at St. Peter’s Square on March 23 and will be available across Europe, including cities like Vienna, London, and Milan, on European Artisan Gelato Day on March 24.
In addition to the Promenád Kávéház, the Florida ice cream parlor in Balatonmáriafürdő on the southern shore of Lake Balaton has also joined the campaign. This means that tourists visiting both the north and south shores of the lake will have the opportunity to taste the special Vatican ice cream.
Furthermore, the Damniczki confectionery in Székesfehérvár and the Pataki confectionery in Érd are also participating in the campaign, which is expected to boost their sales significantly.
The Balaton Tourism Association will also be hosting the 12th annual Ice Cream of Lake Balaton competition on May 9, where local confectioners will showcase their creations made from regional ingredients. This competition aims to celebrate quality, artisanal ice cream making, promote tourism, and highlight local values, creativity, and quality.
Overall, the arrival of the Vatican’s “Hallelujah” ice cream flavor in Hungary is set to bring a unique culinary experience to locals and tourists alike, blending spiritual significance with gastronomic delight.
