Max Verstappen Wins Miami Grand Prix, Extends Lead in Drivers’ Championship
Max Verstappen, the two-time defending champion of the Formula 1 season, has won the Miami Grand Prix. The race was held on a 5.4-kilometer track with the same name as Miami, USA, and comprised 57 laps. Verstappen started the race with hard rubber tires, a strategy different from that used by the drivers at the front.
After a pit stop on the 46th lap, Verstappen returned to the track with new tires 1.5 seconds behind his teammate, Sergio Perez, and took the lead on the 48th lap. Verstappen also set the fastest lap of the race and passed the finish line 5.3 seconds ahead of Perez, securing his third victory of the season and the 38th of his career.
Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin finished third, 26.3 seconds behind the winner. With this win, Verstappen increases his score to 119, and the difference between him and his closest pursuer, Perez, increases to 14 points. Alonso follows the Red Bull drivers with 75 points.
