
Viktor Orbán Meets French Author Emmanuel Todd: A Meeting of Minds

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with the renowned French historian and author Emmanuel Todd at the Carmelite monastery on Monday morning. Todd, known for his research on the impact of social structures on political systems, will be giving a lecture titled “Europe at the Crossroads” on Tuesday at a conference organized by the 21st Century Institute and the Civic Hungary Foundation.
During their meeting, Viktor Orbán and Emmanuel Todd discussed the moral and societal decline of the West, with Todd highlighting Hungary’s stance on maintaining sovereignty and resisting external pressure as a standout example. Orbán took to social media to express his appreciation for Todd’s work and their stimulating conversation.
Emmanuel Todd, born in 1951 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, has a diverse background in academia and research. He gained widespread recognition with the publication of “The Final Fall: An Essay on the Decomposition of the Soviet Sphere” at the age of 25. His continued work has focused on exploring the connections between social structures, family dynamics, and ideologies.
Todd’s latest book, “The Defeat of the West,” published in 2024, delves into the Russo-Ukrainian war and offers a critical analysis of the current state of the Western world, particularly addressing the impact of the decline of Protestantism.
With a keen interest in understanding global shifts and societal trends, Emmanuel Todd’s insights are valuable contributions to the ongoing dialogue surrounding Europe’s future and the challenges facing modern democracies.
