Viktor Orbán Warns of Escalating War Dangers
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has issued a warning about the escalating tensions in Ukraine, stating that the world is nearing the point of no return in terms of a potential global conflict. Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s program, Orbán emphasized that the war in Ukraine is no longer confined to the region, as it is now having repercussions worldwide.
Orbán expressed concern about the growing war psychosis in Europe, which he believes could lead to the deployment of military units from Western European countries to Ukraine. He highlighted the need for caution and prudence in navigating these delicate geopolitical waters.
One crucial point of contention for Hungary is its stance on NATO’s military mission in Ukraine. Orbán stressed the importance of Hungary remaining outside of any direct involvement in the conflict, as being part of NATO’s mission could potentially lead to Hungarian troops being embroiled in the war.
The Prime Minister also addressed financial concerns related to the war, highlighting the growing demands from NATO for financial contributions from member states. Orbán firmly refused to endorse NATO’s request for USD 45 billion a year, emphasizing that Hungary should not be coerced into funding actions outside of NATO’s core defense mandate.
On a more positive note, Orbán mentioned the repurchase of Liszt Ferenc International Airport, which has now returned to Hungarian ownership. He noted the potential involvement of a French company in managing the airport, signaling positive developments in Hungary’s economic landscape.
As tensions continue to rise in the region, Orbán’s warnings serve as a stark reminder of the critical juncture the world finds itself in. It remains to be seen how the international community will navigate the complex geopolitical challenges ahead.
