Village Courses: Cultivating Culture Through Creative Works
Sibel Tatar, the wife of President Ersin Tatar, recently attended the opening of the Erenköy Village Women’s Course 2024 Year-End Exhibition organized by the Yenierenköy Culture and Art Association. During her speech at the exhibition, Sibel Tatar highlighted the importance of village women’s courses in preserving culture and fostering creativity.
She emphasized that the works produced at these courses are not just for leisure but also contribute to the country’s culture and economy. Sibel Tatar pointed out that Cyprus, as a tourism island, thrives on its gastronomy, handicrafts, history, and culture, all of which are essential parts of its cultural identity.
Furthermore, Sibel Tatar shared details about the silk products being produced under the “Kozada” brand as part of the Rebirth of Silk in Northern Cyprus Project. She also mentioned the upcoming launch of the “Keçada” brand, which will feature products made from sheep and goat wool.
By engaging in activities like wool collection and silk production, local communities will not only benefit economically but also contribute to the country’s cultural heritage. Sibel Tatar expressed her excitement about the potential impact of these initiatives on the economy and the availability of unique, locally made products for tourists.
She also highlighted the rarity of felt and silk products in the country, noting that through courses like the Erenköy Village Women’s Course, these products will become more accessible and help preserve and promote Cyprus’s rich cultural traditions. Overall, Sibel Tatar’s involvement in these projects underscores the importance of investing in cultural initiatives to support both the economy and the community.
