Visit by Turkish Delegation to Sednaya Prison

Turkish Grand National Assembly to Investigate Human Rights Violations in Sednaya Prison

Turkish Grand National Assembly Human Rights Investigation Commission Member and AK Party Adıyaman Deputy Mustafa Alkayış has shed light on the conditions at Sednaya Prison following the fall of the Baath regime in Syria. Alkayış emphasized that the GNAT Human Rights Investigation Commission has the authority to conduct on-site investigations into human rights violations.

Alkayış has applied for a delegation of commission members to visit Sednaya Prison, located 30 kilometers away from Damascus, the capital of Syria. The prison, under the control of the Baath regime’s Ministry of Defense, has been known for its brutal treatment towards people.

The visit to Sednaya Prison is scheduled for December 30th, with a delegation of around 20 MPs from various political parties in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The aim of the visit is to document the conditions of the prisoners, understand the reasons for their detention, and ensure that human rights are respected.

Turkey aims to support the efforts to clear Syria of terrorism, preserve its territorial integrity, and enable Syrians to govern their own country. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emphasized the importance of justice in shaping international policies, showing a commitment to human rights and the rule of law.
