Voting Commences in Pınarbaşı as Elections Are Repeated

Citizens in Pınarbaşı district went to the polls to participate in the rerun of the mayoral and municipal council elections on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Despite some setbacks in the previous election, voters were determined to exercise their democratic right and choose their representatives.

With a total of 18,960 voters in the district, polling stations were set up in schools for people to cast their votes. The voting process started promptly at 08:00, with voters receiving their envelopes and ballot papers from election officials. Those who were unable to go to the polls due to illness or disability were accommodated with mobile ballot boxes to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to vote.

Security was a top priority during the election, with a significant number of police and gendarmerie officers deployed to maintain order and safety throughout the province. The voting process was set to conclude at 17:00, after which the ballot boxes would be sealed and the counting of votes would begin.

In the previous election held on March 31, CHP’s candidate Deniz Yağan emerged as the frontrunner with 5,082 votes, followed closely by Menduh Uzunluoğlu with 4,758 votes. However, due to the discovery of unsealed bags during the vote counting process, the District Election Board decided to annul the results and schedule a rerun of the elections.

As the residents of Pınarbaşı district eagerly await the outcome of the election, the focus remains on upholding transparency and fairness in the electoral process to ensure that their voices are heard and their votes are accurately counted.
