Waking Up with a Murderous Feeling: High School Teens in Turmoil

A shocking crime has been uncovered in the rural Merchant neighborhood of Iznik district. Mehmet Karabıyık, who left his house to visit his girlfriend in the Boyalıca neighborhood on January 19, never returned home. After his family reported him missing, gendarmerie teams started a search and eventually found Mehmet Karabıyık’s partially burned lifeless body in the forest in the rural Aydınlar neighborhood.
The investigation revealed that Karabıyık was first stabbed, then burned and killed. The suspect in this heinous crime turned out to be Mehmet Karabıyık’s friend, Ömer Öner, who was detained by the gendarmerie teams. Öner confessed to the crime, stating that he woke up with the feeling of killing someone in the morning.
In a chilling confession to the authorities, Öner described how he met Mehmet, his high school friend, in the forest, stabbed him, and later burned his body. However, during his interrogation with the prosecutor’s office, Öner changed his statement, claiming that he killed Mehmet because he made inappropriate advances towards him.
The lawyer of Ömer Öner argued that his client suffered from severe psychological distress and was under the influence of drugs, leading him to commit the crime under unfair provocation. The investigation into this shocking crime is ongoing under the supervision of the Iznik Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock and disbelief. The brutal nature of the crime and the conflicting statements from the suspect have raised questions about the motive behind the murder. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge about the events leading up to this senseless act of violence.
