Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality Launches Waste Star Separation Project
Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality is undertaking the “Waste Star Separation Project” in collaboration with Karşıyaka Culture and Art Association, with the goal of separating domestic waste.
As part of this initiative, the European Union-funded project will focus on Karşıyaka Village as a pilot region. Domestic waste separation training will be provided to residents in Karşıyaka Primary School and 67 households. Three separate containers for metal, plastic, and paper household waste will be distributed to these households.
The collected waste will be transported to a separation center financed by the Municipality of Laç. Over the course of three months, the waste will undergo weighing processes to gather data. Following this initial phase, the “Waste Star Project” will be expanded throughout the municipality.
Cemaliye Kavani, President of Karşıyaka Culture and Art Association and Coordinator of the Waste Star Project, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to promote sustainability. Kavani highlighted the importance of instilling the habit of separating solid waste for the project’s success.
Orhan Atasoy, EU Project Manager, commended Laç Municipality for being at the forefront of domestic waste separation in the country. He emphasized the role of Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel municipal borders in expanding the project and leveraging different grant programs for further development.
Mayor Fırat Ataser of Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel outlined the municipality’s ambition to bring domestic waste to zero point and achieve on-the-spot separation through this project.
The Waste Star Separation Project represents a significant step towards sustainable waste management in the region, promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal practices.
