Hungary Shines at Decanter World Wine Awards with Best in Show and Multiple Medals
Hungary has once again proven its prowess in the world of wine, as the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards recognized Hungarian entries with outstanding accolades. The event, now in its 21st year, attracted over 18,000 entries from 57 countries, with a panel of 250 wine experts judging the competition in London.
The strict judging criteria at the Decanter World Wine Awards ensure that only the best wines receive recognition. This year, Hungarian wines impressed the judges, with one Best in Show, 4 platinum, 13 gold, 56 silver, and 67 bronze medals awarded to Hungarian entries. Among the winners were Kreinbacher Estate’s Brut Classic and Prestige Brut champagnes, which received gold medals.
In addition to Kreinbacher champagnes, wines from various Hungarian regions, including Balatonfüred-Csopak, Tokaj, Somló, and Szekszárd, were also awarded gold medals. A standout moment for Hungary was when the 6 Puttonyos 2019 Aszú wine from Gizella Winery clinched the Best in Show title, a remarkable achievement given the competition’s caliber.
The four platinum medals went to Tokaj wines, with wineries like Balassa, Pajzos Tokaj, and Sauska Tokaj standing out for their exceptional quality. Overall, Hungary’s strong showing at the Decanter World Wine Awards highlights the country’s growing reputation as a top wine-producing nation.
