Winter Ski Season Begins at Home After Christmas
The 2024/25 ski season in Hungary is kicking off just after Christmas, with Sípark Mátraszentistván in northern Hungary leading the way. According to Vgreen economy, the 20-year-old ski park opened its slopes on December 26 at 9:30 a.m., boasting Hungary’s only four-seater panorama lift in the mountains.
The ski park is planning to remain open daily throughout the winter break, offering lighted evening skiing depending on weather conditions.
Prices for ski passes will be held at levels from two years ago, and SZÉP cards (popular fringe benefit) will continue to be accepted, making it a cost-effective option for skiers and snowboarders.
Sípark Mátraszentistván offers a range of ski pass options for the 2024/2025 season, with prices varying based on the time of season, day of the week, and age group. Pass prices range from HUF 6,000 (EUR 16) for children’s short-term passes to HUF 13,500 (EUR 36) for full-day adult passes during the normal season. Discounts are available for families, students, seniors, and off-peak periods.
Initially, four ski runs will be available at the park, including beginner-friendly slopes and a one-kilometer-long trail descending from the panorama lift’s upper station to the valley. Sledging will not be allowed for safety reasons, but as temperatures drop, more trails and lifts are expected to open. For up-to-date information, visitors can check the Sípark Mátraszentistván website and Facebook page.
In Eplény, western Hungary, the Síaréna Vibe Park also began its season on December 26, offering the T1 learning track and learning lift for beginners and young skiers. Training sessions can be booked starting December 24 at 3:30 p.m., and the rental shop and refreshments at Holle Mother’s Hut are available.
Operators are hopeful about opening the full-length slope “1.” by December 27, pending favorable weather conditions. Updates will be provided on the ski park’s website and social media platforms.
While Mátraszentistván and Eplény get ready for the season, other popular ski locations like Kékestető in northern Hungary and Bánkút in northeastern Hungary remain closed for now. As winter weather strengthens, skiing enthusiasts are looking forward to more resorts joining the season soon. For now, skiers can enjoy the festive atmosphere on Hungary’s slopes.
