Winter Wonderland: Budapest’s Jewelry Exhibition

An exciting exhibition titled “Shine! – The Time of Jewellery” has opened at the Hungarian National Museum, captivating the attention of many visitors in Budapest.
The exhibition showcases a stunning collection of jewellery pieces from various eras, including Hun-Aryan, medieval, Baroque, and contemporary Hungarian designs. Notable items such as the poison ring of King Béla III and the mourning jewellery of Hungarian women from the 1848-49 War of Independence period are on display. Additionally, contemporary jewellery by renowned art collector Katalin Spengler and talented students and faculty from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design are featured in the exhibition.
Dr. Gábor Zsigmond, Director General of the Hungarian National Museum, described Shine! as the most beautiful Advent exhibition in 2024. The exhibition has already welcomed its 30,000th visitor within three months of its opening, receiving praise from the Hungarian press.
The exhibition is not only a feast for the eyes but also an enriching experience due to the changing content of the National Museum building. Katalin Spengler’s jewellery and a dedicated “contemporary jewellery island” offer visitors a unique perspective on structure, harmony, rhythm, and sequences in jewellery design.
Furthermore, a new pop-up exhibition titled On Boundaries – Jewellery at the Intersections of Man, Nature, and the Built Environment has been added to the Dome Room, showcasing works by current and former students and teachers of MOME.
Exciting accompanying programs, educational activities, and workshops will be held in the coming months alongside the jewellery exhibition. The 3000-year-old Somló necklace will continue to be on display in the Széchényi Room. Due to its popularity, the museum has extended the exhibition until April 13, 2025, giving more people the opportunity to experience the beauty and history of jewellery at the Hungarian National Museum.
