Winter Wonderland in Istanbul: Streets Filled with Snowball Fun

Snowfall in Istanbul brought joy and excitement to its citizens yesterday as the city turned into a winter wonderland. The increasing snowfall created a beautiful white blanket over the streets and parks, prompting residents to come out and enjoy the rare sight. People gathered to play in the snow, pulling traditional dances like halay and engaging in friendly snowball fights.
Teams worked tirelessly throughout the night to salt the roads and clear the snow from major highways such as the TEM Motorway and D-100 road to ensure safe passage for drivers. Despite the challenges posed by the snowfall, many residents took advantage of the snow day, with children playing in the snow-covered streets and adults joining in on the fun.
Residents in neighborhoods like Esenler, Gaziosmanpaşa, and Bağcılar came together to make the most of the snowy weather, creating lasting memories in the process. Muhittin Çavdaroğlu from Esenler district noted, “For many years, such heavy snowfall has not been seen in Istanbul. We welcomed this snow with open arms and enjoyed every moment of it with our neighbors and children.”
As the snowfall is expected to continue into the morning hours, authorities have urged caution on the roads, especially on the TEM Motorway and D-100 road where drivers may face challenges due to the snow accumulation. Despite the disruptions caused by the winter weather, many residents are embracing the rare opportunity to experience a snowy day in Istanbul.
The snowfall has brought a sense of joy and unity among the citizens of Istanbul, reminding everyone of the simple pleasures that come with the changing seasons. As the city continues to be transformed by the snow, residents are coming together to make the most of this magical winter wonderland.
