Winter Wonderland: Snowfall in Artvin and Gümüşhane

Severe Snowfall Closes Roads and Disrupts Transportation in Eastern Turkey

The recent snowfall in the eastern regions of Turkey has led to the closure of several village roads, causing major disruptions to transportation. According to the Artvin Special Provincial Administration, as of yesterday evening, 5 village roads in Ardanuç, 48 in Şavşat, 6 in Borçka, and 1 in Yusufeli have been closed due to the heavy snow affecting high-altitude areas.

The adverse weather conditions have not only led to road closures but have also caused landslides, making transportation impossible in Yusufeli’s Yüncüler and Boyalı villages, as well as Borcka’s Çaylı village. With a total of 63 villages experiencing transportation disruptions, the Special Provincial Administration teams are actively working to clear the roads and restore access to these areas.

The impact of the snowfall has been felt in various districts, with traffic disruptions in Şavşat district and the roofs of 2 houses in Arhavi and Kemalpaşa districts being blown off.

In addition to the road closures, the cold weather and heavy snowfall have also affected Gümüşhane and its districts. Gendarmerie teams have restricted vehicle access at the Tersun Mountain pass on the İkisu-Şiran road due to the blizzard, and authorities in the affected provinces have issued warnings, urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel during these adverse weather conditions.

As the snowfall continues to impact the region, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, while also striving to restore normalcy to the affected areas.
