Wizz Air to Launch Direct Flights in India: Find Out When!

Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air is set to launch direct routes to India in the first quarter of 2025, following approvals from Hungarian, Italian, and Austrian authorities. With the use of the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, the airline is planning to connect several European cities with major Indian airports.

According to AIRportal.hu, Wizz Air is expecting to receive its first Airbus A321XLR in February 2025. This long-range plane, capable of over eight-hour flights, will add to their fleet of 47 units by the end of the decade. The aircraft is currently in the final stages of certification.

Last November, Wizz Air received approval from Italian authorities for the India routes, and earlier this year, an unnamed airline applied for permission to operate a Budapest–Mumbai route. Wizz Air CEO József Váradi announced at the CAPA India Aviation Summit in Delhi that the airline has obtained necessary approvals from Italy, Hungary, and Austria, with negotiations underway with Indian officials to finalize bilateral aviation agreements.

Váradi mentioned that Wizz Air’s entry into the India market could provide more affordable fares for both tourists and the Indian diaspora seeking cheaper travel options between India and Europe. The average one-way ticket prices on these routes are expected to be around EUR 200, with some tickets available for less than EUR 100.

Additionally, Wizz Air is looking to start flights between Abu Dhabi and India, for which it already has Emirati approval and is awaiting Indian approval. The airline has been advocating for the liberalization of flight rights and open skies agreements between the EU and India to simplify regulations.

With plans to expand its reach into the Indian market, Wizz Air is poised to offer competitive pricing and increased accessibility for travelers looking to connect between Europe and India.
