Women’s Council Celebrates 49th Anniversary with Footprints Exhibition
The Turkish Cypriot Women’s Council Association celebrated its 49th anniversary with the opening of an exhibition titled “Footprints” in Nicosia. The event, followed by a reception, was attended by many guests at TaşEv Boutique Hotel in Arabahmet.
The exhibition, curated by academician Mutlu Soykurt, showcases the historical development of the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Council and will be open to visitors from May 3rd to May 8th between 16:00-18:00.
During the event, speeches were made by prominent figures such as President Ersin Tatar’s wife Sibel Tatar, President of the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Council Association Remziye Taneri, and Founding and Honorary President Dr. Latife Birgen. A plaque was presented to those who contributed to the exhibition, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate the anniversary.
In her speech, Sibel Tatar emphasized the association’s critical role in promoting the name of Northern Cyprus internationally. Mutlu Soykurt highlighted the growth and strength of the organization over the years, while Remziye Taneri shared the experiences and development of the association through visuals and memories.
Founding President Dr. Latife Birgen reminisced about the challenges faced during the establishment of the Women’s Council and its subsequent recognition on an international level.
Other speakers at the event, including İçim Çağıner Kavuklu from the Turkish Cypriot Entrepreneurial Women Association (GİKAD) and Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen from the EMU Women’s Research and Education Center, emphasized the importance of preserving women’s history in Cyprus and passing it on to future generations.
The exhibition serves as a tribute to the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Council Association’s contributions to society and its enduring legacy in advocating for women’s rights and empowerment.
