Hungary’s capital city, Budapest, is set to host the prestigious World Athletics Championships, which will commence on August 19th. The organizing committee has been working hard to effectively execute this world-class event, and with just 100 days left for the big day, preparations are in full swing. The World Championships is one of the largest sporting events, watched by a staggering three billion people around the world, and aims to sell 400,000 tickets.203 countries have entered so far, and 45-50 Hungarian athletes are expected to participate, according to Miklós Gyulai, president of the Hungarian federation.
The event’s organizers have also introduced the official mascot of the event – Youhuu, the racka sheep. The organizers revealed that Youhuu, which is native to the Carpathian Basin, was chosen as the mascot as it represents the pride, uniqueness, and amiability of the Hungarian people. The name “Youhuu” is derived from the Hungarian word “Juhu,” which means “sheep” in English. Balázs Németh, CEO of Budapest 2023, stated that “Let’s all be Youhuuks, everyday heroes.”
