YAŞ Weekly Meeting – Latest Updates
The Supreme Military Council, known as YAŞ, is set to convene this year under the leadership of President Erdoğan. The annual meeting will take place at the Presidential Complex and will be attended by top military and government officials.
Among the attendees are council members such as Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Commander of the Air Forces General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.
This year will mark the first attendance at the YAŞ meeting for Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Commander of Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Commander of Air Forces General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.
One of the key topics of discussion at the meeting will be the extension of the term of office of Naval Forces Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, whose term is ending this year. There is speculation that Vice Admiral Kadir Yıldız may be appointed as the new Naval Forces Commander in the event of Admiral Tatlıoğlu’s retirement.
Additionally, promotions for generals and admirals are expected to be decided at the YAŞ meeting. Five individuals serving as lieutenant generals and vice admirals in the Land, Navy, and Air Forces are in the promotion queue, including prominent figures like Lieutenant General Veli Tarakcı and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Kadir Yıldız.
The decisions made at the Supreme Military Council meeting will be implemented following President Erdoğan’s approval. The council’s work is expected to conclude in one day, with important appointments and promotions shaping the future of the Turkish military.
