Rebirth Party’s Chairman Race: YDP Deputy Talip Atalay Announced his Candidacy
The race for the chairmanship of the Rebirth Party (YDP) is heating up as Deputy Talip Atalay announced his candidacy with the slogan “You have the power, show your power”. This development comes after the current Chairman of the party, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, also applied for candidacy last Friday.
The YDP’s congress was initially scheduled to be held last weekend, but due to a failure to reach a quorum, it is expected to be postponed to March 3. With the addition of Atalay’s candidacy, the number of candidates vying for the chairmanship has now increased to two.
Following his candidacy application, Atalay held a press conference at the YDP Headquarters where he emphasized the need to repair what has been broken and discouraged hurtful and threatening rhetoric that could lead to the division of the party. Stressing the importance of democratic elections, Atalay expressed his hope that the upcoming election will be a celebration of democracy.
Regardless of the election outcome, Atalay made it clear that he will not leave the party, emphasizing the need for unity rather than division. He underscored the importance of change and transformation for the party’s survival and growth, expressing his gratitude to the party’s base for encouraging him to run for chairman.
Addressing concerns about the election process, Atalay expressed his belief in the ability of voters to distinguish between good and bad approaches. He also called for a respectful and civil discourse, urging party members to focus on defending their positions rather than resorting to hurtful or abusive speech.
YDP Vice President and Congress Committee Chairman Turan Büyükyılmaz confirmed that the Congress will take place on March 3, with the participation of more than half of the 7,559 members required for the 4th Ordinary General Assembly. Büyükyılmaz extended his support to both candidates, emphasizing the need for unity and growth after the Congress.
