YDP: Parliamentary Presidency Issue Resolved – BRTK
Turan Büyükyılmaz, Deputy Chairman of the Rebirth Party (YDP), recently made a statement regarding the Parliamentary presidential election. According to Büyükyılmaz, the election process is over for the YDP, and if Ziya Öztürkler’s presidency is canceled and a new election process is initiated, the YDP deputies are unlikely to participate.
Büyükyılmaz shared his views during an appearance on the Manşet + program on BRT, where he discussed the turbulent presidential election process in the Parliament. He mentioned that there was pressure from the grassroots for the YDP to withdraw from the government if the Speaker of the Parliament could not be elected.
“The people were tired of the constant voting and discussions in the Parliament. The chaos within UBP was also affecting YDP, which is part of the coalition,” Büyükyılmaz explained. He emphasized that YDP fully supported the candidates proposed by its government partner during the presidential election process.
Regardless of the candidate, YDP was prepared to support UBP’s choice. However, if the internal issues within UBP persisted, YDP would have considered withdrawing from the Government. Fortunately, the Speaker of the assembly was elected without the need for such drastic measures.
Büyükyılmaz also addressed objections raised by the Main Opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) regarding Ziya Öztürkler’s election. He pointed out that the Constitution prohibits lawsuits against Parliament decisions, making it difficult for the CTP to challenge the outcome. Büyükyılmaz suggested that if the CTP truly desired early elections, they could achieve this by leaving the Parliament, but he doubted their sincerity in wanting early elections.
In conclusion, Büyükyılmaz’s remarks shed light on the complexities of the recent Parliamentary presidential election and the political landscape in which the YDP operates. The future actions of the YDP deputies remain uncertain as the aftermath of the election process unfolds.
