Yerlikaya to Ozgur Ozel: Police Cameras Remain Active

Close Protection Officers and Controversial Camera Closing Incident: A Comprehensive Overview
The General Directorate of Security has released a statement highlighting the role of its 5,263 close protection police officers. These officers are trained at the EGM Protection Training Academy, where they receive specialized training. Recently, concerns have arisen about a particular training module titled "Band Transportation and Bands Camera Closing," which officials claim does not accurately reflect reality.
In a social media response, Minister Yerlikaya clarified several key points regarding the duties of near protection police officers. He asserted:
- No Responsibility for Camera Tampering: Close protection officers do not have a duty to obscure cameras with tape.
- Taping Equipment: Officers are not equipped with tape during their protective duties.
- Refutation of Claims: Allegations suggesting otherwise lack credibility and are dismissed as slanderous.
Yerlikaya emphasized the integrity of the officers, stating that regardless of any camera obstruction, "the heart of our nation is saving what is happening."
Emerging Evidence in Corruption Investigation
This statement comes in light of new evidence in a corruption investigation involving the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Recently surfaced images reportedly show individuals using tape to cover hotel cameras shortly before a critical meeting on March 6.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently examining these developments. The investigation targets several suspects under serious charges, including forming a criminal organization, bribery, and qualified fraud.
Notably, the depiction of an unidentified male individual covering the camera was recorded at the entrance floor area, while other cameras captured different angles of the same event. Witnesses state that on March 6, key suspects were seen entering the hotel just moments apart, further linking them to the newly uncovered evidence.
Conclusion
As the investigation continues, officials from the General Directorate of Security are working to ensure that their officers are portrayed accurately while emphasizing adherence to their responsibilities. With public interest peaking in light of the ongoing corruption case, the involvement and actions of law enforcement agencies are under scrutiny. It remains crucial for authorities to maintain transparency and uphold the public’s trust amidst these serious allegations.
