Yılmaz: New Terminal Opening Date on 20th July with Focus on Cable and Electricity
Cevdet Yılmaz, the new Vice President of Turkey, recently made his first overseas official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). During his visit, Yılmaz examined the new Ercan Airport project and held a technical meeting with the authorities.
Afterwards, Yılmaz held a press conference where he expressed the importance of the new Ercan Terminal Building in boosting the country’s tourism and becoming a center of attraction. He mentioned that the new building can accommodate wide-body aircraft and that the addition of a new 3,100-meter runway will increase opportunities for the airport.
Yılmaz also revealed that the new runway, which spans 20,000 square meters, will have 30 entrances and can handle 15 million passengers per year. He announced that the port will be completed by July 20, aligning with the timeline set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Vice President emphasized that despite some minor problems, the terminal will be completed and opened quickly. He commended the new port as a beautiful piece of work that will improve the investment environment and serve as a showcase for the TRNC.
Yılmaz expressed confidence that any remaining deficiencies will be addressed promptly, allowing the airport to be opened as soon as possible. He highlighted the ongoing technical work and the commitment to enhancing capacity and services over time.
Regarding future plans, Yılmaz mentioned upcoming discussions with relevant institutions to support the development of the TRNC. He underscored the significance of the economic-financial cooperation protocol signed by President Erdogan, emphasizing its importance in the Cyprus cause.
Yılmaz outlined his itinerary, which includes meetings with state and government officials, visits to construction areas, and discussions with ministers regarding the airport and highway projects. He also highlighted the goal of providing access to electricity and improving the welfare of the people.
The Vice President emphasized the focus on reducing costs and supporting the private sector through consultations and cooperation with the TR-TRNC private sectors. He expressed his commitment to working together with Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia and his team to build a prosperous future for both countries.
