
YSK Calls for Candidates for Headman and Council of Elders in By-Election

The Supreme Electoral Board (YSK) has released important information regarding the upcoming Local Establishment Bodies By-election scheduled for June 30. According to the announcement, candidates for headman and alderman membership must submit their applications by the end of the working hours for government offices on Wednesday.
Candidates are required to apply to the District Election Board and submit a signed letter confirming that they meet the necessary conditions and qualifications as stated in the Constitution and the Election and Referendum Law No. 5/1976. Along with the application, the following documents must be submitted:
1. Police character certificate
2. Proof of permanent residency in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for at least three years before June 30, 2024
3. TRNC ID card or its photocopy
4. Documentation showing completion of military service or exemption
Applications can be submitted in person by the independent candidate or by a designated representative. It is also possible for multiple independent candidates to apply collectively through a designated representative.
Candidates are advised to carefully review the Election and Referendum Law No. 5/1976 and ensure compliance with the qualifications for election outlined in Article 9 and the application process detailed in Article 58. Additionally, candidates can indicate the preferred name and surname to appear on the ballot paper during the application.
The provisional list of candidates will be announced on the evening news bulletin on television and radio on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Failure to submit any required documents may result in disqualification. Independent candidates are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines provided by YSK to ensure a smooth application process and successful candidacy in the upcoming by-election.
