Zelenskiy speaks on drone attack: “We lack the weapons to defend ourselves”
Leaders Deny Ukrainian Involvement in Drone Attack on Kremlin Palace
Leaders from Nordic countries and Ukraine held a joint press conference in Helsinki after the Nordic-Ukraine Summit. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, along with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir discussed several topics including the recent drone attack on the Kremlin Palace.
During the conference, President Zelenskiy denied Russia’s claims that Ukraine was behind the drone attack. He stated, “We did not attack Putin. We are fighting on our land, we are defending our villages and cities. We are not attacking Putin or Moscow. We have enough weapons for that.”
In response to a question about why Russia is blaming Ukraine for the attack, Zelenskiy explained that Russia has been unable to defeat Ukraine and Putin cannot motivate the people or send his army to their deaths for nothing.
The Kremlin Press Service released a statement accusing the “Kiev regime” of attempting to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin Palace with unmanned aerial vehicles. The statement claimed that the attack was carried out with two UAVs at night and that they were neutralized. The Kremlin described the attack as an “assassination attempt” and a “planned terrorist attack.”
Despite the accusations from Russia, leaders at the summit maintained Ukraine’s innocence in the drone attack. The conference focused on strengthening ties and cooperation between Nordic countries and Ukraine.
