Zelenskyy assures Kursk operation on track
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Visits Zaporizhia Amid Russian Attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently visited the city of Zaporizhia alongside Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, who was in Ukraine for discussions. During their visit, Zelenskyy and Schoof met with students to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year in Ukraine and later held a joint press conference.
Zelenskyy revealed that Russia had conducted air strikes on Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kiev regions overnight and in the early morning, putting millions of students in the line of fire as they started their education under attack.
The Ukrainian President emphasized the importance of continued support for Ukraine in strengthening their air defense systems and acquiring F-16 fighter jets and other weapons to defend against Russian aggression. He mentioned providing Schoof with necessary information on these matters.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy mentioned ongoing efforts to lift the ban on using long-range weapons from Western countries against military targets in Russia and acquiring such weapons to bolster Ukraine’s defense.
Regarding the ongoing Kursk operation, which involves the Ukrainian army’s offensive against Russia’s Kursk region, Zelenskyy confirmed that the operation was progressing as planned. He highlighted its significance in reducing Russian army attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Zelenskyy also reported the capture of over 600 Russian soldiers in the Kursk region, a development that could impact the ongoing prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
In response to a question about regaining control of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which had been taken over by the Russian army at the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, Zelenskyy expressed efforts towards regaining control through political means, given security concerns.
Despite challenges in political negotiations to reclaim the power plant, Zelenskyy mentioned involvement from the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, in the process.
As Ukraine continues to defend against Russian aggression and seek diplomatic solutions to reclaim key infrastructures, international support and cooperation remain crucial in ensuring stability and security in the region.
