Zorlu Holding CEO Cem Köksal Detained for Ramadan Text
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Zorlu Holding CEO Cem Köksal and all employees on the grounds that a Ramadan celebration text was sent. The investigation is based on the accusation of “preventing the use of freedom of faith, thought, and opinion.”
According to a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, social and visual media publications reported that Cem Köksal sent an email to all employees of Zorlu Holding regarding the month of Ramadan. The email reportedly contained content that was deemed to restrict freedom of faith, thought, and opinion, leading to the initiation of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Zorlu Holding CEO Cem Köksal was taken into custody and transferred to the Istanbul Police Department. The case has raised concerns about the limits of freedom of expression and religious freedom in Turkey.
The developments in this case are being closely monitored, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
