The General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquatic Products of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has undertaken a Water Resources Fish Cultivation Project, which recently saw the release of young carp fish into lakes in the Kars region. These carp fish were brought from the Elazığ Keban Aquatic Products Production Facility and released into various bodies of water by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

The program, which took place at the Karakurt Dam in Sarıkamış district, was attended by Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Enver Aydın. During the event, the baby carp fish were seen swimming in the cool waters of the dam, marking the beginning of their new habitat. This initiative aims to not only enhance the region’s aquatic ecosystem but also to promote the development of local fishing activities.

In total, 1 million 680 thousand carp fingerlings were brought by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Approximately 1 million of these fingerlings were released into Çıldır Lake, while 500 thousand were released into Karakurt Dam Lake. Additionally, 30 thousand fingerlings were released into Arpaçay Dam Reservoir and 150 thousand into Kars Dam Lake.

With these efforts, the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquatic Products is working towards the sustainable management of water resources and the promotion of local fish cultivation in the Kars region. This project not only benefits the ecosystem but also supports the livelihoods of fishers in the area.
