10 Million Ton Coal Plant Begins Operations
A New Coal Concentration Plant Opens in Mongolia
On June 20, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved in the Mongolian mining industry with the inauguration of a new coal concentration plant in Tsogtsetsii soum of Umnugobi province. This plant, with a capacity of 10 million tons of coal per year, marks the first of 10 strategically important projects initiated by “Erdenes Tavantolgoi” JSC. The project, which commenced in 2022, is expected to have a transformative impact on the local economy and employment landscape.
Once fully operational, the coal concentration plant will enable “Erdenes Tavantolgoi” JSC to produce and sell an average of 24 million tons of products annually. This is projected to generate an impressive revenue of 1.9 billion US dollars, with an estimated net profit of 197.3 million US dollars. Furthermore, the implementation of this project is set to create between 472-928 new direct jobs, providing a much-needed boost to the workforce in the region.
