Çanakkale Epic Celebrates 109 Years

The historic Çanakkale Victory, which took place on March 18, 1915, holds a significant place in Turkish history. This year marks the 109th anniversary of this great victory, celebrated with honor and pride by the Turkish nation. In commemoration of this milestone, a special program highlighting the spirit of the victory was organized.

The Martyrs’ Monument area, known for its motto “Our Çanakkale”, was prepared for the ceremony with a final rehearsal taking place yesterday. As part of the week’s activities, a 1-minute public spot titled “Glory, Honor, History is Ours, Our Çanakkale” was broadcasted on television channels.

The celebrations in Çanakkale began days ago, with warships from the Naval Forces Command, including TCG Anadolu, passing in front of the Martyrs’ Monument on the historical Gallipoli Peninsula. Legendary aerobatic team SOLOTURK also conducted rehearsal flights around the area, captivating audiences with their skills.

Today’s program will feature a parade by the Navy in the Dardanelles, with President Tayyip Erdoğan scheduled to address the audience. SOLOTURK will perform a demonstration flight during the event, which can be viewed in high resolution on the “www.18martetkinliği.com” website.

Historical relics, including soil, water, and the Turkish flag from the Gallipoli Peninsula, were entrusted to athletes Nilhan Akaman and Mehmet Serbes to be taken to Ankara in the ‘Çanakkale-Ankara 27th Victory Race’. These relics will be presented to President Erdoğan at today’s ceremony after passing through various provinces along the route.

The historical Gallipoli Peninsula witnessed an influx of visitors from all over Turkey, eager to pay their respects at the battlefields, martyrs’ cemeteries, and monuments. Particularly popular were the martyrs’ cemetery of the 57th Regiment, the Martyrs’ Monument, and Chunuk Bair, all significant landmarks from the Gallipoli Wars.

The Çanakkale Epic continues to be a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and national pride for the Turkish people, honoring the heroism displayed during this historic event.
