14-Year-Old Sets High Goals: Achieving the Impossible with Halal Means
Ilkan Turgut, a resident of Araklı district, has turned his childhood love for animals into a profession. Starting with a 14-year-old neighbor’s calf, Turgut now takes care of a total of 15 cattle, focusing on nutrition, milking, feed supply, and pasture management. Apart from contributing to the family economy with the production of dairy products, Turgut aims to establish a dairy of his own. His dedication and hard work at such a young age, in an industry often overlooked by the younger generation, have earned him praise from his community.
Expressing his passion for animals since childhood, Turgut shared, “I started by assisting in the birth of a neighbor’s cow at the age of 14. This sparked my interest in animal husbandry, and I gradually increased my livestock. I love being around animals, caring for them, and observing their growth.” He also mentioned that he handles all aspects of animal care by himself, including purchasing, selling, and producing dairy products.
With a goal to establish a large-scale dairy operation in the future, Turgut faces skepticism and questions from his family and neighbors. However, he remains firm in his love for the job and encourages young people to explore different career paths. Despite the challenges, Turgut’s determination and hard work have earned him admiration from his community.
One of Turgut’s neighbors, Perihan Emirza, praised his dedication and skills, stating, “He started with a calf and has been dedicated to this work for years. He handles everything by himself and does it with care and dedication. I truly appreciate his hard work and commitment at such a young age.”
