143 kg of Beef and Lamb Seized in Metehan by BRTK
143 kilograms of beef and lamb meat were intercepted during a vehicle search at the Metehan Kara Crossing Gate in Nicosia. The incident took place when Police and Customs and Revenue Administration officers seized the meat from a vehicle (E-61) traveling from Southern Cyprus to TRNC.
According to the Police Press Officer, an administrative fine was imposed on Ş.D. by Customs and Revenue Administration officials for “importing and disposing of duty-free goods”. The authorities are taking strict measures to prevent the illegal importation of goods into the country.
It remains unclear why the individual attempted to bring such a large quantity of meat across the border. Investigations are ongoing to determine the purpose of this smuggling attempt and whether there are any additional parties involved.
