16 Thousand Injured During Animal Sacrifices on Eid

16,000 People Injured While Sacrificing Animals on the First Day of Eid al-Adha

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca took to his social media account to share alarming statistics regarding injuries sustained during the sacrifice ritual on the first day of Eid al-Adha. Across the country, approximately 16,000 individuals sought medical attention due to injuries they suffered while sacrificing animals. In the capital city of Ankara, 1,274 people were treated for such injuries, followed by 840 in Istanbul and 416 in Izmir.

Minister Koca emphasized the importance of having professionals handle the slaughtering process to prevent such incidents from occurring. He expressed concern that many individuals would not be able to fully enjoy the holiday due to their injuries on the first day.

In Istanbul alone, 916 people were injured while sacrificing animals, with one individual tragically losing their life to a heart attack during the ritual. The Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate reported a total of 918 citizens seeking medical assistance, with two fatalities and several others in varying conditions.

In Ankara, numerous individuals also experienced injuries while attempting to carry out the sacrifice ritual. One individual, Salih Gültekin, humorously recounted an incident where a friend accidentally injured him with a knife during the process. Despite the mishap, Gültekin reassured that he was fine.

At the Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Hasan Murat Ergani revealed that their team was actively treating patients injured during the sacrifice. Emergency services were kept busy due to the influx of cases, primarily involving novice butchers attempting the ritual themselves.

Assoc. Dr. Burak Yaşar highlighted the gender disparity seen in injuries, with men predominantly seeking treatment on the first day of the holiday, while women were more common on the second day. Both professionals and novices were affected, with professionals often sustaining more severe injuries due to a lack of protective measures.

In Izmir, 416 individuals were treated for injuries sustained during the sacrifice. The Izmir Provincial Health Directorate confirmed that all individuals were discharged after receiving necessary medical care. Additionally, authorities took action against individuals who violated regulations during the sacrificial process, ensuring proper disposal of animal waste and adherence to safety guidelines.

As the holiday festivities continue, medical professionals urge the public to prioritize safety and opt for professional assistance when performing sacrificial rituals to avoid potential accidents and injuries.
