In a recent development, 172 individuals who were detained in connection with illegal demonstrations have been arrested following an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Istanbul Governor’s Office has also taken measures to prevent any further provocative actions by prohibiting all kinds of meetings and press releases for four days between March 19-23.
The suspects, who were detained for their involvement in recent social events and acts of violence, were brought before the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. A total of 206 suspects, including individuals who were seen provoking violence while hiding their faces with masks and using sticks, were presented to the judge with a request for their arrest.
Following the interrogations, 172 suspects, including seven journalists, were deemed fit for arrest and were subsequently sent to prison. Additionally, 29 suspects were placed under judicial control measures, while six others were placed under house arrest.
