2024 Summer in Uzbekistan Ranks Among Top Three Hottest on Record

Uzbekistan Wraps Up Hot Summer with Above-Average Temperatures
August has come to a close, marking the end of the summer season in Uzbekistan. This year, the country experienced temperature fluctuations throughout the month of August.
The first half of the month was characterized by extreme heat, with temperatures averaging 2–3.5°C above normal. Daytime temperatures soared to +36–41°C in most regions, and even reached +45°C in the far south. The number of days with temperatures exceeding +40°C was higher than the 10-year average, especially in the southern areas.
However, the second half of August saw a change in weather pattern as cool air masses moved over Uzbekistan, signaling the arrival of autumn. Temperatures dropped back to normal levels, ranging from +29–38°C during the day and +14–17°C at night.
Overall, the average monthly temperature for August was 1–2°C higher than the long-term average, making it one of the top three warmest Augusts on record in most parts of Uzbekistan.
Despite the above-average temperatures, rainfall was scarce throughout the month. Most regions only experienced 1–3 days of light rain, with precipitation ranging from 1–2 mm. The foothills and mountainous areas received slightly more rainfall, with 6–19 mm recorded in some areas.
Winds also picked up during August, reaching speeds of 13–25 m/s in certain regions. Dust storms accompanied the strengthening winds in the northern, southern, and desert zones, reducing visibility to 800 meters.
As the summer of 2024 draws to a close, it is noted that all three months were warmer than usual, with June being the warmest compared to the norm. Despite the overall warmth, the absence of prolonged periods of extreme heat made the summer season relatively comfortable for residents of Uzbekistan.
