Net and Gross Minimum Wage Increase for 2025 Announced by Minister Işıkhan
All eyes in Turkey were on the latest minimum wage meeting held recently to determine the 2025 minimum wage. The 2024 net minimum wage stood at 17,002 lira, prompting speculation about the percentage increase and the final amount for 2025. This decision directly impacts over 7 million employees and has broader implications for society as a whole. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, led by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, convened on December 10, 16, and 19 for discussions.
In a press conference following the fourth meeting, Minister Işıkhan revealed the new minimum wage for 2025, set at 22,104 lira. He stated, “The minimum net wage for 2025 will be 22,104 lira effective from January 1.” Minister Işıkhan also announced an increase in the state’s minimum wage support from 700 lira to 1000 lira for each minimum wage earner.
Employers will see a rise in costs associated with the minimum wage. According to reports by Milliyet, the SSI premium increased to 3,100.39 TL (from 15.5% to 5% discount) in 2024, climbing to 4,030.73 TL for 2025. The unemployment insurance premium also saw an increase from 2% to 520.09 TL from 400.05 TL in 2024. The total cost for employers for the minimum wage was 23,502.94 TL in 2024, and it will rise to 30,555.53 TL in 2025.
