2,080 Killed in Uzbekistan Road Accidents in 11 Months

Uzbekistan Reports 665 Traffic Accident Deaths in 3 Months

In a recent announcement at the meeting of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security Issues, it was revealed that 665 people died as a result of traffic accidents in Uzbekistan over a period of three months. The data indicated that a total of 8,693 accidents occurred in the first 11 months of 2023, resulting in 2,080 fatalities and 8,055 injuries.

The Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security of the Senate, Kutbiddin Burkhonov, had previously reported that 1,115 people died in accidents in January-July, and later, 1,415 people died in the first 8 months of the year. This means that 665 people died from accidents in September, October, and November alone.

The committee emphasized that many of these road traffic accidents were caused by citizens’ disregard for the responsibility established by law and ignorance of the current traffic rules. The data provided for the 7th month of 2023 showed that only 51.4% of the incidents occurred due to subjective reasons.

Furthermore, in 2022, a total of 9,902 accidents were recorded, with 48.1% of them caused by objective reasons such as the absence of pedestrian crossings, barriers dividing the road, lack of bicycle lanes, and the absence of traffic lights or road signs.

The information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs highlights the need for greater awareness and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on Uzbekistan’s roads.
