3 People Testify in ‘Speed’ Investigation at CHP Congress

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a speed investigation into the CHP congress following allegations of “voting for money” on November 4-5, 2023. Three people, including a party delegate and two party members, have testified in connection with the claims.

According to information obtained from the AA correspondent, the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office received a complaint regarding the CHP 38th Ordinary General Assembly vote-buying allegations. The case was subsequently transferred to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on December 22, 2023.

In January 2024, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the crime of “cheating on the vote” as defined in Article 112 of the Political Parties Law. As part of the investigation, party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and party member Akif Hamzaçebi were called in as witnesses.

Additionally, a party delegate and two CHP members testified to the Attorney General as witnesses, alleging irregularities during the congress. The witness delegate claimed that he and 8 other delegates were offered money in exchange for their votes by CHP member Ozgur Ozel. Two other CHP members corroborated this account.

Furthermore, one of the witnesses has filed a lawsuit seeking the cancellation of the Congress in the Civil Court of First Instance in Ankara. The statements of individuals mentioned in the witness testimonies are expected to be taken in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
