35 Mongolian Athletes Set to Compete in 9th Asian Winter Games
Mongolian Athletes Gear Up for the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin
The 9th Asian Winter Games are set to kick off from February 7 to 14, 2025, in the city of Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. This will be the second time that Harbin plays host to the event, with its first time being in 1996. It will also mark the third occasion that China will welcome the prestigious Asian Winter Games. The Games are anticipated to showcase 64 medal events spread across six sports, including biathlon, curling, ice hockey, skating, skiing, and ski mountaineering. Athletes hailing from 34 nations are slated to compete, with approximately 1,275 participants expected to grace the event.
Among the participants are 35 athletes from Mongolia, accompanied by 28 coaches, who will be competing in seven categories across four different sports. This significant delegation from Mongolia represents the largest group in their history of participation in the Asian Winter Games.
Mongolian athletes have a track record of achieving success at the Asian Winter Games. Noteworthy accomplishments include winning their first bronze medal in the men’s cross-country ski relay at the Sapporo 1990 Games. Additionally, they clinched a bronze medal in alpine skiing freestyle at the 2007 Changchun Games, and the bandy hockey team secured a silver medal alongside four bronze medals in ski orienteering at the Astana-Almaty 2011 Games.
The overarching theme of the 9th Asian Winter Games is “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia,” symbolizing the unity and shared enthusiasm for winter sports among nations in Asia. This slogan was handpicked from a pool of 3,518 entries, submitted by 4,608 individuals from across the globe.
As the countdown to the 9th Asian Winter Games begins, the spotlight shines on Mongolian athletes as they gear up to showcase their skills, determination, and sportsmanship on the regional stage in Harbin.
