Enhancing Traffic Safety: Insights from Turkey’s Recent Traffic Inspections
In an effort to combat traffic violations and enhance road safety, Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya recently provided an update on the country’s traffic inspection initiatives through his social media channels. The focus is on utilizing air vehicles like helicopters and drones to monitor city and intercity highways effectively.
Increased Surveillance for Safer Roads
Within the first four months of 2025, officials conducted air traffic inspections on 37,056 vehicles and drivers. This aerial approach aims to reduce traffic density and mitigate the risk of accidents, ensuring safer travel routes during peak traffic times.
Week-Long Inspection Results
Minister Yerlikaya reported that from April 24 to May 1, 2025, a staggering 3,619,038 vehicles were inspected. The inspections revealed a range of violations, including:
- Speed Violations: 151,392 infractions recorded.
- Seatbelt Non-usage: 25,815 drivers were caught not wearing seatbelts.
- Driving Without a Valid License: 16,622 cases.
- Lack of Mandatory Insurance: 7,301 vehicles lacked compulsory financial liability insurance.
In total, 496,095 vehicles were assessed during this rigorous inspection phase.
A Message of Responsibility
Yerlikaya emphasized the importance of safe driving, stating, “Journeys are to bring you to your loved ones, not to separate.” This reminder underlines the governmental commitment to improving road safety and reducing the risks associated with traffic violations.
