Building Evacuated in Tuzla Due to Structural Concerns
A building in the Obaköy Sitesi neighborhood of Tuzla was evacuated late at night after residents reported hearing noises coming from the columns of the structure. Emergency response teams, including firefighters, police, AFAD, and police, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Upon examination, it was discovered that the building’s carrier columns had cracks, posing a risk of collapse. As a precautionary measure, the 4-story building with 16 apartments was evacuated to ensure the safety of the residents. Some citizens who were displaced during the evacuation were provided assistance by the district governor and the municipality.
Tuzla Mayor Eren Ali Bingöl, who visited the site and spoke with residents, highlighted the lack of settlement in the building despite construction starting in 1998 and a building license being issued in 2012. He mentioned that the Ministry will be involved in investigating the structural issues of the building.
The situation of the building remains uncertain as it has been sealed off by the police for further investigations. Residents await more information on the future of their homes as authorities work to determine the next steps.
